Isn’t it time that you had a smile that looked as confident as you feel?

First impressions are everything and when you first meet someone you most likely look at their smile. It’s hard not to when someone reveals their pearly whites to you; however, if you feel embarrassed by your teeth this can be enough to make meetings and gatherings uncomfortable and awkward. Here are some of the ways our Kalamazoo, MI, cosmetic dentist Dr. David Cooley can help you get a smile that makes a great first impression.

Your Teeth are Yellow

As we get older we start to notice that our teeth aren’t as radiant as they used to be. This is a natural part of aging; however, this is an easy fix. The professional teeth whitening system that our Kalamazoo, MI, dentist offers can get your smile multiple shades whiter and remove those stubborn stains in about one hour. Coffee and wine drinkers, smokers, and those patients just wishing to get a more radiant smile can be great candidates for teeth whitening.

You Have a Small Chip or Flaw

Even small dental imperfections can make you feel self-conscious, especially if it affects your front teeth. If one of your teeth is slightly uneven or chipped at the edge dental bonding can improve the shape of the tooth. Bonding uses a special putty-like resin that is applied, shaped and then hardened into place over the imperfection. Bonding is meant to rebuild and reshape a tooth, and can also cover small discolorations. Bonding is one of the least invasive and most cost effective cosmetic treatments available.

You Have a Gummy Smile

Is excess gum tissue affecting the overall shape of your smile? If so, gum contouring and reshaping may be what you need to reveal more of your teeth for more even results. During this treatment our dentist will numb the area with local anesthetic before removing some gum tissue. The result? A more symmetrical smile.

You Have Several Imperfections

Sometimes you may be dealing with a multitude of cosmetic problems, from discolored teeth and gaps in your smile to chipped teeth. If your issues are more widespread then dental veneers may be the best way to restore your smile. These thin porcelain shells are adhered to the front of your teeth to reshape, lengthen, brighten, and veneers can even straighten your smile.

What does your smile say about you? If you are dealing with discolorations, chips, or crooked teeth our Kalamazoo and Portage, MI, dental team can give you the smile you want with the help of whitening, veneers, implants, and more. Call our office today at (269) 345-1021.

Are you ready to replace a missing tooth? If so, dental implants, the only option that restores an entire tooth from the roots up, may be a Dental Implantgood choice for you. Here at Dr. David Cooley's office in Kalamazoo, MI, we offer a variety of dental services and procedures to help protect your smile, including dental implants. Read on to learn more!

Building a new tooth from the roots up

In the past, replacement teeth were only able to replicate the dental crown, or visible part of your tooth. Thanks to improvements in technology, however, your entire missing tooth can now be recreated with the help of dental implants!

Dental implants are made of titanium and look like small screws. In order to replace your tooth roots, these pieces are implanted in your jawbone during a minor oral surgical procedure. Once placed in the jaw, the implants begin to bond to the bone over the next several months. Bonding is a crucial step in the process and ensures that your new root will be stable and secure.

Once the implant has successfully bonded to the jaw, your dentist will connect the crown using a connector called an abutment.

How dental implants can help you

Dental implants offer several important benefits, including:

  • Natural Appearance: Your Kalamazoo dentist makes an impression of your mouth to ensure that your new crown blends in seamlessly with your smile.
  • No Concerns About Drifting Teeth: It's not unusual for nearby teeth to begin to drift after the loss of a tooth. As the teeth attempt to fill the gap, they may overlap, changing your appearance and your bite. Implants prevent drifting from occurring.
  • Strong Jawbone: Your tooth roots constantly press against your jawbone, providing the stimulation it needs to remain healthy. After tooth loss, however, this stimulation is gone, leading to resorption (shrinkage) of the jawbone, loose teeth, and facial sagging. Fortunately, adding dental implants to your jawbone prevents resorption from occurring.
